The East

Explore Eastern Europe

Once hidden behind the curtain of Communism for decades, cities of Eastern Europe are now among the most accessible—and fascinating—destinations in the world. The revolutionary spirit of 1989 invigorated local life, and though many locations still bear the marks of an oppressive past, they welcome the future with dynamic culture.

In Prague, an elaborate castle keeps watch over five vibrant districts. On the banks of the Danube, the cities of Buda and Pest delight visitors with over 20 active symphonies and an array of architectural marvels. In Krakow, the Old Town shines with 1,000 years of history while nearby Auschwitz is a sobering memorial to the tragedies of the Holocaust, and reminds us all that in this region, as everywhere, the lessons of the past must serve as the tools to rebuild a new future. And remember, there is much more to Eastern Europe than just cities and etr’s Learning Adventures also venture to engaging locales and interesting sites outside capitals. Come along!

“The trip to Prague was a glowing success. The star of the success was, as predicted, (etr program leader) Lizette. She has such a clear, and unique, sense of what makes them work for kids, what is worth learning…”
