Nestled at the foot of the Austrian Alps, the picturesque Baroque city of Salzburg offers students a tranquil and inspiring setting in which to explore a wide range of historical, artistic, and cultural achievements of the past centuries. Most famous as the birthplace of Mozart in 1756, Salzburg maintains today the rich musical tradition begun over 250 years ago and yet has a surprisingly modern side and successfully bridges several centuries of musical styles and architectural eras.
Music is not alone the delight offered by this city, however. Architectural and artistic wonders fill the narrow streets and surrounding landscape. Baroque spires stretch far into the sky, rivalled only by Untersberg, the 2000 meter peak towering just a few kilometers away. The Museum der Moderne, adorned in marble and home to contemporary and modern art exhibits, rounds out town’s cultural offerings, proving that it the rich artistic traditions begun hundreds of years ago continue today.
Though Salzburg is all about history, music and art, etr Salzburg programs are also active adventures. With our hikes high above the historical district or along the River Salzach, which flows elegantly through the Old City, attendance at live performances, excursions to nearby St Gilgen, biking along the banks of Grossarler Ache all combine to provide an active, diverse and engaging program. Oh, let’s not forget a stroll through the vibrant, open-air Grünmarkt.
Salzburg is a medley of culture, waiting to be explored: let etr take you there.
