Service Learning Programs
Back in 1990, etr tours started providing community service opportunities in Russia at St Petersburg children’s homes and after-school groups. Our visiting students provided energy and enthusiasm while cleaning, painting and constructing playground gym sets, all in an effort to make a difference in the young lives of local children.
In 1994, etr tours was operating programs in Nepal which included a variety of community service components. Students on etr programs joined in on reforestation projects, refurbished both urban and rural schools and created a courtyard gardens at an AIDS hospice for young women. These projects continue today.
In 1995, etr’s Kenya safari programs offered our visiting school groups a community service day (or two) working at rural homes for at risk children. The visiting students challenging refurbishment tasks were interwoven with classroom tutoring and the playground games. The visiting students were also tasked with visiting nearby markets to fulfill a shopping list for much needed school supplies.
And over the past subsequent 25 years we have grown to include inspiring service learning experiences in Thailand, Peru, Vietnam, South Africa, Nepal, Russia and Cambodia which are rich and rewarding, innovative and interactive. As with every etr itinerary, our service learning adventures are fully customized to achieve your specific learning and service objectives. Come along!
With such a diverse collection of service destinations and project opportunities, we know the decision of where to go may not be the easiest. Take a look below and let us know where your interests lie. Also, please know that we can arrange for an online meeting to discuss all possibilities.
If you have a specific project you would like to pursue or would like suggestions for your next community service tour, just drop us a line. You’ll think the world of us.
Honestly, the trip exceeded my expectations, and I am planning on recommending that trips with etr become yearly occurrences for our group and others.
Our students were both impressed with the organization of the trip and delighted by their experiences. They particularly appreciated being able to help at the school and are already talking about donating/sponsoring children/going back in the summer.
Very worthwhile and meaningful service project which made a real difference; I’m happy we were doing something so well thought out
