Preparations for the upcoming academic year

Kala Bhairava statue Kala Bhairava statue
August always provides a great time for etr administrative staff to head out to our far flung destinations. And this August staff are in Kathmandu to double check on-the-ground preparations for the upcoming academic year.

Though time in the capital was busy, etr staff took the opportunity to wander through historic Durbar Square one warm evening and sent along the photos here. The temples, shrines and palaces of Durbar Square date back over 500 years and provide a religious and artistic legacy of the Malla and Shah kings who ruled over the city. This statue, in the image of Kala Bhairava, and has been determined to have been sculpted in the 5th or 6th century and subsequently moved to here.

Many believers contend that one dies if to speak falsehoods in front of the image and it is understood that for this reason the Nepal supreme court was once at this location.
