Yes, I just finished leading a seven-night exploration of Syria with a group of Singapore-based high school students. And what a fun, exhilarating time we had. After starting our itinerary with an overview of Syrian culture and history in Damascus, our attention focused on the Crusades and the remarkable Krac des Chevaliers, whose labyrinth design, high ramparts and deep history kept the students in awe for hours.

Then we were off to the coast to view Phoenician ruins before heading by train to Aleppo with its fantastic citadel perched overlooking the city. Palmyra, that jewel of the central desert, was next, our arrival on the backs of our trusty camels a highlight.

In the evening we enjoyed the local food, musical traditions and, of course, dancing, with our Bedouin hosts. Back in Damascus, the souk beckoned and our group single-handedly stimulated the local economy with last-minute purchases. Eight days of adventure and discovery. Check it out

Oh, and yes, that’s me in the middle.

“ The trip to Syria went very, very well. (etr tour leader) Kent was the best guide I've ever had on a school trip.”
